As the Faculty of Education and Social Work strives to develop more productive partnerships with the broader educational community it is appropriate that our increasing international relations are given support and recognition. In the past this has been achieved through the International Programs Unit and the Division of Professional Learning. The establishment of the Sydney Principals' Institute and the Centre for Practitioner Research within the Faculty are two new developments that will strengthen the Faculty's partnerships with the broader educational profession.
The purpose of the Division is to:
- promote and support all activities as they relate to the international and external relations goals and activities within the Faculty of Education and Social Work.
- develop partnerships with various education related stakeholders internationally and locally.
- provide professional development opportunities for the teaching profession internationally and locally.
- work cooperatively with the Graduate Division in the recruiting and marketing of postgraduate programs offered within the Faculty
The role of the division is to foster international relations activities in the Faculty; to coordinate but not oversee the visiting scholars program across the Faculty; to develop exchange programs for academic staff between institutions; to foster and support the overseas practicum/internship programs; to develop links with various elements of the teaching profession in order to provide fee paying professional development activities (short courses); to develop collaborative research projects, consultancies and other professional activities; to foster and support international student recruitment activities; to develop publicity and marketing strategies for international relations activities; to bid for and coordinate research and other appropriate professional development consultancies; to oversee the quality management of international activities within the Faculty.
The Associate Dean for International Relations and Head of the Division is Associate Professor Brian Paltridge.
