Honours entry requirements
The Honours program is designed to provide an introduction to educational research for high achieving candidates. Honours is only available to those candidates intending to complete the full two year MTeach degree - it is not available for BTeach graduates. Honours research is a demanding occupation and students should not consider applying for Honours unless they have the abilities and commitment to sustain a project simultaneously with their other coursework commitments. In making a decision to apply for the Honours program, candidates should give some thought to their past academic record and their capacity to sustain a focused concentration on an academic task over a year, in a context that is demanding and often stressful given the other pressures of full-time study, ongoing coursework, practicum work in schools, the demands of employment, and family and social commitments.
The selection criteria for Honours are:
- academic merit exhibited in all previous degrees. A credit-average or better in your undergraduate qualification(s), or equivalent/relevant prior learning experience, is an essential requirement for any applicant, irrespective of the subsequent criteria.
- academic record in the BTeach course, especially in Study 1 and Curriculum coursework
- performance in the nominated assignment in the Study 1 unit EDBT5500
- submission of a 500 word statement addressing the following:
- a preliminary proposal for an issue that could be investigated by research
- an indication of any relevant previous work, including coursework or other experiences, which addresses an understanding of research methodology or research-based investigations
