General Information

Obsolete Units of Study (UOS) - Special Cases

Within the BEd (Primary) course, there are a number of students taking UOS which are obsolete, or part of the "old" course which are no longer "technically" offered. This may be due to failure of a UOS or deferment.

If you are a student taking an obsolete unit of study, please take the following administrative steps:

  • Obtain special permission to officially enrol in the unit and approach the faculty office on level three to ensure that you are, in fact, enrolled.
  • At the beginning of the year, after you have received your timetable, make an appointment with Alyson Simpson to locate the time/day/location of the appropriate unit substitute.
  • Alert the tutorial leader to the fact that you will NOT appear on their official roster and briefly explain your situation within the first week of classes.
  • Just before the end of the semester, remind your tutorial leader that your name will NOT appear on the list for submitting marks and that she/he will have to manually add your name and result to the roster.

If you have any further questions about this process or are confused or worried that you have not done the right thing, don't hesitate to contact Alyson Simpson either via email or phone.

Unit of Study (UOS) Outlines

UOS outlines will now be available online. For copies of the latest UOS outlines, click on the link to the left of this screen marked "Units of Study." Links to the outlines for each UOS are organised by year.

Special Consideration

NB: Special Consideration should only be considered in the event of SERIOUS illness or misadventure.

The Steps:

  1. Fill out the "Special Consideration" form available either from the Faculty Office on the third floor or the university website at: http://www.usyd.edu.au/studentcentre/forms/special_con.pdf
  2. Collect the required supporting documentation.
  3. Make copies of the request and supporting documentation for the following: Faculty office, Course Coordinator, Year Adviser and the Unit of Study Coordinator(s).
  4. Submit the original request, along with supporting documentation, to the Faculty Office where it is recorded as having been submitted and a Faculty receipt is attached.

The coordinators for the units of study for which you are applying for special consideration will get back to you within TWO WEEKS with a verdict on your case.
