Education III Program - Education Electives

Education III is designed to add to your developing knowledge in the education studies area.

Education III comprises of a series of options and one compulsory unit.

The compulsory unit is EDUF3031 - Positive Approaches to Special Education. Most employers require beginning teachers to have had specific training in special education if they are to deal with the diverse needs of students in schools.

The other units provide an opportunity to study different topics at an advanced level. They include units drawing from the foundation disciplines and fields of history, sociology, psychology, policy studies, international education and human development.

Normally students choose two options, making up the three units (including Positive Approaches to Special Education) to complete Education III. Human Movement students get less choice. They are usually required to enrol in EDUF3023 - Sports, Leisure and Youth. Some students complete Education III by doing some of its units in second and fourth year as well as the third year of the BEd.

Students should note that there are class-size quotas for Education III entry. Where there is competition for entry, an assessment of prior academic achievement determines the winning of a place. It pays to pre-enrol by the target date in Education III to maximize the chance of entry to a preferred option.

In 2006 Education III units were upgraded from 4 to 6 credit points.
