Graduate Certificate in Education Studies (Higher Education)

The GradCertEdStud(Higher Education) is primarily designed to introduce university teachers to current principles, practices, debates and research in higher education.

Candidates are encouraged to develop scholarly, research-led approaches to teaching while engaging in activities and tasks aimed at cultivating critical reflection about higher education.

Entry requirements

All intending participants in the graduate-certificate program must be currently engaged in university teaching.

Course structure

All units of study in this program are offered in partnership with the University's Institute of Teaching and Learning (ITL), which offers a unique, three-tiered program of study, leading to a formal qualification in university teaching.

The four core units of study listed below comprise the graduate certificate. No higher qualification than graduate certificate is available in the specialty "Higher Education" but at the conclusion of the course, students may choose to progress to a general GradDipEdStud or MEd by compiling the remaining units of study required – two and four respectively – from the generalist MEd program.

Core units of study

GradCertEdStud(Higher Education) candidates must complete all of the following, each of which is worth 6 credit points:

Fees

Course fees for the graduate certificate are waived by the University for all University staff. However, any unit studied additionally, as part of a general graduate diploma or master's course will attract full fees. The most up-to-date charges can be found under individual units of study in the Courses Online database.
