Master of Teaching and Bachelor of Teaching
Graduate Entry

The Master of Teaching (MTeach) and Bachelor of Teaching (BTeach) qualify you for a career in:

  • early childhood (0-5)
  • primary school (K-6) teaching
  • secondary school (7-12) teaching
  • secondary school counselling

The Master of Teaching and Bachelor of Teaching degrees are teacher education courses for graduates who already have a first degree in one or more discipline areas and who are seeking a teaching qualification. Applicants must have an initial degree with a range of undergraduate studies appropriate to their chosen teaching specialisation(s).

All candidates are enrolled initially in the BTeach program and, after completing 3 semesters of coursework, have the option of either exiting with the BTeach degree, or completing an additional semester for the MTeach award.

Please note, this course is not available by distance mode or during the evenings.

Why Sydney University?

  • Higher Quality - The course is designed to prepare high quality graduates for the demanding teaching profession and therefore is more academically rigorous than the traditional Diploma of Education. Established in 1996 the Bachelor of Teaching/Master of Teaching is the longest running degree of its kind and still remains an innovation in teacher education.
  • Better Experiences - be better prepared to teach with extensive schools-based experiences with partnership schools: school visits and two Practicum blocks in the BTeach and a 9 week Internship in the Mteach.
  • Greater Diversity - Choose from a diverse range of specialisations and qualify to teach in one or two curriculum areas.
  • Higher Level Degree - Achieve a Masters degree (at low cost) and start your teaching career on a higher salary scale (as a five year trained teacher). 85% of our students go on to graduate with the Master of Teaching. You will also have the opportunity to undertake an Honours program and school-based Practitioner or Action Research.
  • Fantastic Reputation - Graduate from a University with a highly regarded international reputation. This reputation means greater employability. Many students gain full time employment by the time they finish their degree. Our graduates have established a reputation for excellence in the profession and have contributed to the reputation that the course has established for leadership and innovation in teacher education, both in Australia and internationally.
  • Leading Teaching Staff - Faculty teaching staff are highly regarded researchers in their field therefore students are exposed to cutting edge research and education methodologies. The course promotes a teaching and learning environment which integrates self-directed inquiry and case-based learning experiences in small group seminars, augmented by lectures, tutorials and ICT-based learning experiences.
