Course overview

The curriculum of the the graduate-entry primary-school-teaching course is designed to prepare students for teaching all the subjects in the Primary K–6 syllabus in NSW.

As well as learning about the policy frameworks that shape teaching in NSW, Australia and internationally, students attend lectures and complete assignments about issues in teaching, learning and curriculum in all school years – from Kindergarten to the Higher School Certificate.

Honours study is available and various electives are offered to in addition to the compulsory coursework, which covers teaching in multilingual classrooms (TESOL) and the Primary School Key Learning Areas of:

  • English K–6

  • mathematics K–6

  • creative and practical arts K–6

  • human society and its environment (HSIE) K–6

  • personal development, health and physical education (PDHPE) K–6

  • science and technology K–6.
