Initial social-work degree scholarships and prizes

In addition to the Marion Macaulay Bequest Scholarship and Government-funded scholarships, which are available to all undergraduate and graduate-entry students in the faculty, others that apply to students undertaking an initial qualification in social work are listed on this page.



Scholarships

University of Sydney Scholarships

These scholarships are available to school leavers entering the University and are awarded on a combination of school-examination results, ATAR and other achievements such as leadership, creativity, self-motivation and communication skills. They are awarded at two levels, 'Entry', which lasts for the first year of university studies and 'Merit', which lasts for the duration of the degree. Nursing and Allied Health Scholarship and Support Scheme

Social-work students enrolled in either an undergraduate or graduate-entry degree who have resided in a defined rural area for a minimum of five consecutive (or eight cumulative) years from the age of five years may be eligible to apply to the Nursing and Allied Health Scholarship and Support Scheme for a scholarship worth $10,000 a year, which is funded through the Department of Health and Ageing and administered by the peak body for rural and remote allied health professionals, Services for Australian Rural and Remote Health.



Prizes for course achievement

Social Work Pioneers Prize

This prize of $1000 is awarded to the student who achieves the highest aggregate marks in the third year of the Bachelor of Social Work.

Helen Sham-Ho Prize

This prize of $600 is awarded to the final-year student enrolled in the Bachelor of Social Work or the BA/BSW who achieves the highest aggregate mark for classroom performance together with an excellent performance in field education.

Marie Wilkinson Prize

This prize of $250 is awarded to a student enrolled in the final two years of the Bachelor of Social Work course who has produced an excellent essay about children's welfare or children's rights.
