Keynote
Claire Treadgold completed her PhD on civics and citizenship education in this faculty in 2005. Claire previously worked on programs for young people including electoral education and financial literacy for young women and for the last four years has been the National Programs and Services Manager for CanTeen, the Australian organisation for young people living with cancer. She oversees the development and delivery of services for the 4000 young people who access CanTeen’s programs. The role includes strategic planning and oversight, research, policy and resource development, and management of the 10 offices and 50 frontline program staff. Claire has worked in cancer support and education for over 10 years, and her previous role was the director of a national breast cancer support program for a women's organisation.
Claire is a Board Member of the Reg Waite Award which promotes the development of young Australians. She has previously been a member of the Australian Government’s Ministerial Advisory Committee on Mentoring, the Steering Committee for the Commonwealth Creating Youth Conference, the Steering Committee for the International Youth Parliament and the selection panel for the Australian Parliament Youth Roundtable.
Wendy Foote completed her PhD "Child sexual abuse allegations in the Family Court" in this faculty in 2006. Wendy is currently a lecturer in Social Work Practice at the University of New South Wales.
Wendy is currently involved in a project investigating the efficacy of an early intervention program in the inner west of Sydney where mothers of infants have recently moved to Australia and are experiencing isolation. This program is designed to deliver 10 sessions over the first 12 months of the baby’s life using home visiting, parent education and community linking and bridging activates. The program will target mothers from the Indian/subcontinent region, including India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. The project is a result of collaboration between The University of New South Wales, The Infants’ Home child and Family Services and United Way Sydney.
Wendy has worked in a variety of settings as a social work practitioner and publishes articles that explore practice. She has worked in child protection, family and family health, family law, early intervention and adult mental health fields. Wendy brings recent experience as a senior manager of a multidisciplinary, non government service and in the consultation process to develop a National Child Protection Framework during 2008. Wendy is currently developing a research project involved in early intervention in CALD communities.
